Kenton Cool is one of the world’s most accomplished high-altitude mountaineers and expedition leaders, widely recognised for his extraordinary record on Mount Everest. By 2026, he is set to make history by completing his 20th summit of Everest, becoming the first Westerner ever to achieve this feat and further extending a record he already holds as the most successful non-Nepali climber on the mountain. With more than 21 successful expeditions across the Greater Ranges of the Himalayas, Kenton’s career places him among the most respected figures in modern mountaineering.

Introduced to climbing through the Scouts, Kenton went on to study Geological Sciences, graduating in 1994. His early career was almost derailed in 1996 when a catastrophic fall shattered both heel bones, an injury doctors believed would end any serious climbing ambitions. After a year of surgery and rehabilitation, he defied expectations, rebuilding his strength and joining the British Association of Mountain Guides scheme. This period shaped his resilience, discipline and mindset, qualities that would later define his leadership in some of the world’s most hostile environments.

As a fully qualified IFMGA Mountain Guide and Director of Dream Guides, Kenton has led numerous elite expeditions, including those involving Sir Ranulph Fiennes. His climbing achievements are exceptional. In 2011, he made the first 3G phone call and first social media post from the summit of Everest. In 2012, he carried one of the original 1924 Olympic gold medals to the summit, an act that prompted personal thanks from Lord Sebastian Coe and helped symbolically launch the London 2012 Olympic Games. In 2013, he and his climbing partner became the first people to traverse Nuptse, Everest and Lhotse in a single expedition without returning to base camp, a landmark achievement in Himalayan mountaineering.

Beyond Everest, Kenton continues to push boundaries, including a successful trek to the South Pole in 2023. He is also a compelling storyteller, sharing his experiences through his bestselling autobiography ‘One Man’s Everest and his acclaimed UK tour Everest: The Untold Story’. Appearing on the cover of The Sunday Times Magazine and speaking to audiences worldwide, Kenton offers powerful insights into leadership, resilience, decision-making under pressure and achieving peak performance in extreme conditions.

“Kenton was excellent, superb! His talk was totally inspiring and motivating and his stories and footage of his summit trips were very impactful. He is so driven and passionate about what he does and this clearly came across to the team. They could relate to many of his examples of challenges he has overcome when he is on his trips. Absolutely brilliant, I would definitely recommend Kenton to others!”

Meryem, Head of Strategy and Planning, Lloyds Banking Group

“The world in which Kenton has such a distinguished record of achievement is, of course, very different from that inhabited by LSEG. Yet, as he compellingly made clear, the qualities required to overcome obstacles are in essence the same whatever the field. In what was a highly successful Leadership Forum, Kenton’s contribution was outstanding – as the volume of enthusiastic feedback I’ve had from members of the team confirms. I have no doubt that going forward, we’ll be drawing added strength from his words as we seek to reach our own challenging goals.”

Xavier, CEO, London Stock Exchange Group

“Really engaging, inspiring and thought-provoking. You’d obviously given the themes a lot of thought and it resonated very clearly with some of the issues we are grappling with across the business (one team, leadership, risk-taking etc)”

Chris, HR Director, CBRE

“All went really well yesterday – Kenton was fantastic – really personable, great presentation – we loved him. Thanks so much to you and the Champions UK team – excellent recommendation.”

Sandy, International Marketing Director, Anika Therapeutics Inc
