Jo Salter MBE is a former Royal Air Force pilot and was Britain’s first ever female Fast Jet Pilot. Joining the RAF when she was just 18 years old, she has since taken many cadets up into the skies during Air Experience flights in the hope to inspire many others to enter a career in the RAF. Jo is currently the Director of Global Transformative Leadership at PwC and the Managing Director at Saltin Ltd where she has developed second-to-none expertise in leadership, interpersonal and analytical skills which she shares in a wide range of corporate events all over the UK.
Originally wanting to join the RAF as an engineering officer, Jo’s career drastically changed direction when the British Government announced women would be allowed to fly jets in 1992. Jumping at the opportunity to make her career in the skies, she was awarded her wings the very same year and at the end of 1992, she completed her fast jet training. In 1994 Jo joined the 617 squadron and it was just one year later before Jo was then declared combat ready in 1995, becoming the first woman to fly the Tornado as an operational pilot.
Having earned her Engineering degree from RMCS Shrivenham Cranfield Institute of Technology, Jo then completed her MBA, which was sponsored by the MOD, whilst still on active duty. Upon leaving the RAF, Jo became the Head of Technical Services for NetConnect and was an Associate Lecturer for 17 years for the Open University Business School. Her passion for flying too strong, Jo became a pilot for the RAF taking up cadets in Air Experience Flights for 12 years from 2006-2018. Passionate about a world which encourages female and youth empowerment, Jo has been an Ambassador for the Global Angels since 2008, an organisation which is dedicated to improving the living conditions and lives for communities all over the world. In 2022 she was personally invited by Tom Cruise to attend the premier of Top Gun: Maverick and received an honorary doctorate of Arts from Bournemouth University.
Jo has led a diverse and fruitful career, proving to be successful in a range of industries and was named as one of the 50 Most Inspiring Women in the World by Harpers & Queen. In 2022 she was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in the New Years Honours List for her services to aviation. The author of two books ‘Energy: 52 Ways to Fire Up Your Life’ and ‘Become an Energy Angel and Energise: Spring Clean Your Mind and Body to Get Your Bounce Back Today and Every Day’, Jo has become a popular speaker on leadership and uses her own experiences in helping companies transform their leadership strategies.
