Bear Grylls OBE has become a worldwide icon as one of the most recognised survival and outdoor adventure specialists. Having trained in martial arts from a young age, he utilised his natural abilities to spend three years as a soldier in the British Special Forces as part of the 21 SAS Regiment. Starting his Army career in the Territorial Army with 21 SAS as a Trooper, Bear trained in unarmed combat, survival, explosives, Desert and winter welfare, and climbing. After being selected to become a Survival Instructor, his time in the SAS was cut short due to a parachuting accident in 1996. In 2004, he was awarded the honorary rank of Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Naval Reserves, shortly followed by being awarded the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and then was recently promoted to Honorary Colonel in 2021.

After taking a step back from the SAS, Bear focused his efforts on achieving his goals as an adventurer. Completing his childhood dream of climbing to the summit of Mount Everest kickstarted his passion for exploring, and in 1997 he became the youngest Britain to climb Ama Dablam. Leading his first team to circumnavigate the British Isles on jet skis, Bear recognised his natural leadership ability and continues to complete remarkable expeditions alongside teams that are enthusiastic to learn from his experience and knowledge.
