Oliver Irvine

Oliver Irvine is a Clipper Round the World Yacht Race-winning skipper and inspirational leadership speaker who knows what it takes to lead when there is nowhere to hide. Having guided Team GOSH to victory in 2026 and navigated 40,000 miles through some of the world’s most unforgiving seas, Oliver has experienced leadership at its most demanding. Bringing lessons from the ocean to the corporate world, he is a compelling choice for leadership conferences, corporate events and team development programmes seeking fresh perspectives on resilience, trust and collective achievement.

Oliver’s understanding of leadership was shaped through years of developing sailors and managing demanding maritime operations. As Senior Training Instructor at UKSA, he learned how to build confidence and unlock individual potential. His subsequent appointment as Chief Officer at Sea Shepherd Global introduced greater operational responsibilities, while his role as Yachtmaster Instructor at Flying Fish Sailing strengthened his ability to guide individuals through unfamiliar challenges.

In 2025, Oliver took command of Team GOSH as Race Skipper, embarking on an extraordinary test of endurance, judgement and teamwork. His eventual Clipper Round the World Yacht Race victory demonstrated the importance of creating a crew capable of responding to uncertainty, maintaining morale and making critical decisions when conditions deteriorate. Oliver’s achievements have also taken his leadership insights beyond competitive sailing. At the Southampton International Boat Show in 2026, he delivered his signature keynote, ‘When the Pressure Is On: How Great Teams Perform at Sea‘, exploring the behaviours and decisions that enable teams to succeed in extreme environments.

What distinguishes Oliver as an inspirational leadership speaker is his ability to make leadership tangible through experiences where every decision matters. Rather than relying on abstract theories, he reveals how trust is earned, confidence is developed and individuals become united by a common purpose. His presentations encourage audiences to rethink leadership, embrace responsibility and inspire exceptional performance when challenges arise.
