Stephen Hutchinson

Stephen Hutchinson is one of the most respected figures in British American football history, celebrated for his achievements as a player, coach, entrepreneur and ambassador for the sport. A member of the inaugural British American Football Association Hall of Fame class in 2021, Stephen built a career defined by leadership, resilience and a relentless commitment to excellence. Stephen balanced his education alongside his sporting ambitions before fully committing to American football in the early 1990s. Beginning his career with the London Gators, he quickly established himself as a talented running back before joining the London Rockets in 1993. His performances soon earned him a move to the London Olympians, where he became a key figure during one of the most successful periods in British American football history. With the Olympians, Stephen helped guide the team to national and European success, winning the 1994 Eurobowl Championship and earning Game MVP honours. He later secured the 1999 EuroCup Championship and was named Team MVP, further cementing his reputation as one of Britain’s elite players.

Stephen’s success in Britain opened the door to professional opportunities overseas. In 1995, he signed with the London Monarchs in the World League of American Football, later known as NFL Europe, before continuing his career with the Hamburg Blue Devils in Germany and the Scottish Claymores between 2001 and 2003. After his playing career, Stephen remained deeply involved in the sport, making a successful return as player-coach with the London Blitz, helping the club win the BritBowl Championship in 2007 and 2008. He later returned to the London Olympians as Running Backs Coach and Assistant Offensive Coordinator. Beyond football, Stephen co-founded Rosterbase.com in 2014, creating a virtual sports community, and continues to champion British American football through the Ballaz In Da Middle podcast.
